About Coastal Rowing at MACR
Coastal rowing is the adventure side of rowing. It involves rowing along a sea coast and out into the sea. Coastal rowing boats are also used inland on lakes and rivers where the water tends to be rougher, as well as for rowing touring. It is a growing rowing sport and quickly gaining popularity in the United States.
Rowing on rougher water makes coastal rowing different from the flat-water Olympic-style of going in a straight line. Coastal rowers prefer rough water which adds a whole new dimension to the sport.
Coastal rowing can be learned quickly due to a stability and robustness of the boats which differs from Olympic-style rowing boats. Adaptive rowers especially benefit because increased stability of coastal rowing shells provides wider opportunities for rowers of all abilities to develop, compete and excel.
Mid-Atlantic Coastal Rowing has training site options that include intracoastal waterways, open bays and ocean rowing. Our boats and practices fulfill all US Coast Guard and Virginia safety requirements and are adapted to meet competition standards for both US Rowing and FISA.lo
